eternal perspective
Saturday, May 5

Relaxing and idling are not one and the same. Relaxation has a purpose --- to unwind; destress; recuperate. Idleness is aimless, and ironically, is a state of unrest.

It is unfortunate that so many of our activities in the present day require the use of the computer, so much so that more than 75% of normal work time is spent facing the computer. It has reached the point where a work area would seem incomplete without a computer. Thus, perhaps, it would only seem natural that when one is free, one turns to the easily accessible computer, which is conveniently in front of, or at the very least, beside him.

Idleness takes over. Time that could be better spent elsewhere, building oneself up while still relaxing, is continually wasted. Forget the knowledge acquired through reading, the soul-resonating tunes of instruments and worship, the peace and joy received from waiting on Him. No, go on, forget them all and crave instead for the instant gratification of the mindless content on the computer --- wait for those status updates you don't care about; refresh to see those new tweets you recoil upon reading; link from video to videos you aren't interested in --- all just for the sake of it.

Really? Really. Is this the best you can do? You're better than this, and you know it. You have the potential for great things --- reach for it. Get your act together, Clement. You need to be a better steward of your time. You should know by now how precious time is, shouldn't you?

Look at things in the eternal perspective --- seek meaningful long-term gratification, rather than frivolous short-term ones.

Have your end goal in mind, be purposeful, and work at it with all your heart.

You'll get there. I know you can. I know you will.

AMEN;
